Welcome to the World Baby Girl!

Ms Dowd had her baby yesterday - 15th October. She is a - not so little - girl. She weighs 4.25kg  (9lb 5oz if you're old fashioned). We haven't been told her name yet.

Olivia was the closest guess. She guessed: a girl called Imogen on 15th October weighing 4.5kg.

We'll have to wait and see if her name guess was right!

Festival Fun

In the holidays Marissa and her family went to a festival. Leticia went with them. Don't they look lovely in their special outfits? They ate food and Marissa's dad made a speech.
These photos are taken at Birdling's Flat. Marissa and her family went there to watch the sun setting. Marissa said the waves were enormous.

Wheel Blacks

Today we read about the Wheel Blacks. We were left wondering:

  • Did they win gold medals at the 2012 Paralympics?
  • Are there any women's teams that play sport in wheelchairs?
The WWRC is on at the moment and New Zealand are playing South Africa today.
Read about the Wheel Chair Rugby World Challenge here.

Calendar Art

Soon notices will be coming home to enable you to order calendars, diaries, notebooks and cards that are illustrated with art made by YOU! This is a fundraiser for the school.
We created our art works in the style of the author and illustrator Lauren Child. You can find her website by clicking HERE. I love having a poke around this website, there is so much to learn from it.
This page is one of my favourites. You finding it by clicking the Liberty bird.
After we had created the art works we wrote a short story that explained what was happening in that moment in time in our illustration. Jules helped us record these stories with our picture.

Make sure you look out for the order form coming your way soon!

White Sunday in Christchurch

Josiaiah told us about how he and his family celebrated White Sunday yesterday. We read a story about White Sunday in Samoa. Josaiah was able to tell us about the things that are the same and different about this celebration in New Zealand.

We also read about the day Richie McCaw visited Raurimu School and gave the kids there a real fright! I tried to find the youtube link for this, but it is a private video and we can't watch it.

Term Four - Here We Come!

Welcome back to life and learning in Room 17. What amazing Spring holiday weather we had this year. I enjoyed 5 days on the West Coast and I didn't need to wear a raincoat once!
A special welcome today to Millie who has joined us for the rest of the year. Millie has come from Yorkshire in England. This morning she was welcomed formally at the powhiri.

Creative Charlie

Charlie found time in the holidays to make some creations with Lego. Since making this video, he tells me he has already made some alterations, including some rope. Can you imagine what they might have been?
