Poetry Competition

Well done to everybody in Room 17 today - you all did a fantastic job of reciting your poems this afternoon.
I also loved the thoughtful answers you gave to the questions asked between performances.
Special congratulations to Sophie, Max M and Ava who will represent Room 17 in the Year 3/4 Poetry Competition on Thursday afternoon.

Videos of your performances will be available here soon!

Sewing Sensation

Today we made the base of our costumes. We all had a turn of coming up to Ms Ashby and Jules to make our base. Then we got to choose the fabric and the  finishing edge for our design. The edging options were:
1. scoops
2. spikes
3. scallops

Once everyone had had a turn Ms Ashby pulled out her sewing machine. She took all of our costumes and sewed them all up. Here are a couple of time lapse photos and fun videos.

Dear Spring... Part 2

Dear Spring

Oh dear Spring, I wish you will turn this sad place to a happy place. On the blog our front cover is about you, so can you turn the sad face to the happy face please? I think of you being sunny but you are rainy. I wish Will's old man doesn’t get hit again.

From William F.

Dear Spring

I think of you as cold and sometimes warm. You spring me up and I love how you let the baby animals come out and play. Did you know that my birthday is in spring? That is another reason why I like Spring.

Lots of love,
Millie

Dear Spring

Hello there. Thanks for coming but I really wanted sun, not rain! Anyway, thanks to you Christchurch looks like a painted picture. You’re right, Spring is kind of on and off with rain. Just try to keep it warm though, I’d really appreciate that!

See you next time xxxooo,
Olivia

Dear Spring

I thought that you would open my heart on Tuesday. But when I open my curtains it was raining, and the old man was snoring. My family loves Spring because my sister’s, my Dad’s, and my Mum’s birthdays are in Spring.

From Will C.

Dear Spring

Hello Spring, my name is Ava. I wish you could be here all year, but no, there is rain not sun. You can do better please. Anyway thanks for coming, you’re right, Spring is a rainy season. The city is a lovely work of art in Spring. The daffodils at my house are coming out and I love it.

Love from,
Ava xo

Dear Spring

Spring you are my favourite season of the year. Where are you? It feels like it is still Winter. It is freezing down where we are, but the good news is you brought out my two favourite flowers, which are blossom and daisies. Me and my friends are helping you look after nature. I hope you will be back soon.

Odes to Librarians

Ava and Olivia worked with Greg from the School of Young Writers on Monday. They wrote an ode to a librarian.

Oh Librarians,
We watch you love, live, and be happy
we love your glow to other people

Oh Librarians,
We listen to you reading wonderful stories
full of adventures with your brains aglow

Oh Librarians,
We thank you for your humour,
fun, and amazingness
you are all beyond compare

Oh Librarians,
You are computers
You are a pick-a-path story
that never ends.

By Ava

Oh Librarians,
We watch you organise our books tidily
you scan our books for us
and you're always helping people
find the book for them

Oh Librarians,
We listen to you
Oh! Do you have your library card?
If you do, I can help.
Or can I help you, madam?

Oh Librarians,
We thank you for giving
up your time and effort
just to please your guests
and you are very generous

Oh Librarians,
You are flowers to me -
your pollen really lights up the library.

A Late Happy Birthday to Ava!

I'm sorry I didn't have your cake ready on your actual birthday Ava.

I thought of you in Sydney on the 10th. I hope you had a hoppy day!

Congratulations Ava!

Last Tuesday Ava entered the colouring competition at the Library during lunch time.
What a lovely surprise it was today to discover she had won a book for her efforts!
We enjoyed reading Holy Socks  after sport today.

Can you remember what it was like last Tuesday afternoon?

ANZAC News

We have begun our Inquiry about ANZAC this week. Yesterday you made some fabulous poppies. The poppy is the symbol of war remembrance. We wrote some questions to talk about at home:

What should we remember?
Why should we remember?
Who should we remember?

Today Ava brought along a photo of her grandfather who fought in World War II, and his medals. She will wear the medals at the dawn service this weekend.

At our ANZAC service on Friday we will all sing the song Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kitbag. You have the words stuck in your home learning book or your poetry book and can practice it with this youtube clip.

It was fascinating to learn about Tory the tortoise who is the last living relic of WWI. The link to that video clip is on the Extra Reading Links page above.
