Calendar Art

Soon notices will be coming home to enable you to order calendars, diaries, notebooks and cards that are illustrated with art made by YOU! This is a fundraiser for the school.
We created our art works in the style of the author and illustrator Lauren Child. You can find her website by clicking HERE. I love having a poke around this website, there is so much to learn from it.
This page is one of my favourites. You finding it by clicking the Liberty bird.
After we had created the art works we wrote a short story that explained what was happening in that moment in time in our illustration. Jules helped us record these stories with our picture.

Make sure you look out for the order form coming your way soon!

Lauren Child's Website

This is another fabulous website for you to explore. You can find out things about your favourite characters from Lauren Child books. You can read more about Lauren too. Find out if she was good at writing as a child - what about drawing?
I find I have to turn the sound off after a while because otherwise the music drives me mad.

Reading Enthusiasm!

It has been so exciting to hear the enthusiastic buzz of readers researching and scheming using the new National Library books this week. The first project you voted in was the candle holder one.
For this you will need a glass jar. Small jars are the most suitable for this project. They will need to have the labels removed from them. It doesn't matter if you don't still have the lid.
All of these jars would be suitable.
The jar candle holder project will take place next Friday so you have a bit of time to find a jar!

Creating With Computers

Today we used SLIDE, TURN and FLIP to create patterns using images from the internet on the computer. We realised that this is the way designers create fabric and paper patterns.
The mathematical terms are Slide - Translation, Turn - Rotation, Flip - Reflection.

Self Portraits

Today we did some work on drawing realistic self portraits. It's pretty tricky.
Some people wanted to share today's efforts. Remember to spend some time in front of a mirror tonight and think about the shapes you can see.

Getting Things in Perspective!

Look at these (kind of sleepy looking) kids.
You'd think William was the tallest wouldn't you?
What happened? Millie looks much taller now.

We have used this phenomenon for painting the poppies in our fields of poppies.
It is also interesting to notice where the sky and grass are in this photo. Compare that to the way you make your pictures. Tricky eh?

We're Showing Our Colours

Newspaper Faces

Have you had a chance to show your friends and family our finished newspaper faces yet? This movie is a bit shaky and the light's not very even but you can still see what a lot of good looking people there are in Room 17!

Sophie also brought from home some newspaper faces she has made there. We were impressed by the initiative and creativity she applied to this project.

Dragon Parade

On Friday we took our finished dragons on the road. Before and after recorder with Mrs Worthington we visited junior classrooms to show them our dragons and explain the story of Nian and this Chinese New Year tradition.

Chinese New Year

I was so impressed when I came in today and found you all taking notes as you watched the clip about Chinese New Year with Ms Dowd.

Here is the story of Nian too.
You will enjoy finishing your dragon puppets tomorrow. Thanks for a great day Ms Dowd!
