Fabulous Fun in the Sun!

What better way to enjoy the sunny weather today than by doing a folk dancing concert for Jules and Mr McKenzie? I even remembered to video it - amazing!

Folk Dancing Fun Fair

Today we were asked to be visiting experts to the Year 0/1 team. They are about to begin learning some folk dances and they wanted to see some of the Junior School leaders dancing.

We thought:

  • that was exciting exercise
  • the little kids learned really quickly
  • it was terrific that the little kids taught us the birdie dance at the end
  • it was great fun being with the little kids
  • it was enjoyable being out in the sunshine
  • it was absolutely amazing performing to such a large audience
  • they were fantastic to pick up the dance so quickly
  • the line dance was a great way to teach the Jiffy Mixer so quickly to so many people
  • that performing was the most enjoyable part (well some of us did)
  • we were very hot by the end
  • it was really fun to choose little buddies to dance with
  • it was fantastic fun spending time with the little kids
Thanks for inviting us we can't wait to see your folk dancing later in the term!

Fabulous Fitness!

This term we have been working with the children from other Year Three classes during our fitness and P.E. times. It has been great to be able to meet up and learn with new and old friends. It has also meant that we have people learning different skills to share at different times. Mrs DeVries did a wonderful job making videos last Friday and has shared them with us - thank you.

Congratulations!

At last the big day had arrived. We all felt excited and a little bit nervous as we gathered together.
We went out and supported the senior children as they ran their course. We could recognise the strategies different runners were using to reach their goals.
Before long it was time to go over to English Park ourselves. Many Room 17 children have brothers or sisters in Year One so we cheered them on before taking our places in the stands.

Finally it was time for the Year Three girls to run. The girls ran with focus and perseverance. It was a lovely day and so many people came to support us and cheer us on. All the place getters in the girls' race were from Room 18. We felt proud of them and ourselves for our hard running.
The Year Three boys were the last to run. It was a fast and furious race with runners showing determination and grit to finish. We felt particularly proud of Max M and William M who received medals.
After all that excitement and effort we were certainly ready for our lunches. Now cross country is over for 2015. We need to reflect on our race goals and plans and decide how these will need to change and develop for 2016.
Tau ke Room 17 - we are proud of ourselves!

Thinking About the Tryathlon

We used DeBono's PMI tool (with a twist) to help us think about the tryathlon. We made the P be the Positive things we liked about it. Instead of just thinking about the minuses for M - we made it the Maybe next time category so we were thinking about improvements we could make to the not so good bits. Feeling inspired is always interesting so we made that what the I stood for.

Tryathlon Success

We saw the Key Competencies out in force today! Why don't you go down the list of things you need to do to succeed at school and see how many you did today?
